Increasing Your Search Engine Ranking with Blogging

March 21, 2017by smartguys

Everyone wants to figure out the magic formula to get to the top of search rankings on Google, Bing ad Yahoo. Showing up in the first few website options can increase clicks, visitors to the website, and, eventually, the number of customers purchasing products from the website.

Google released a Search Engine Optimization Guide to help website creators and businesses understand how to rank higher in the search results. Although the guide recommends many different options for increasing search rank, one sticks out as particularly important.

“Creating compelling and useful content will likely influence your website more than any of the other factors discussed here.”

What is compelling and useful content? It can be the descriptions of your company, the mission statement, the values, the product descriptions or the blog. While your mission statement may be compelling, it’s a likely a little too niche to make the top of the search ranking.

Of all the types of content described here, the most dynamic and constantly updated is the blog. Everything else is pretty static. Product descriptions are rarely updated until a new version comes out. The mission and values of business change slowly over time. But blogs provide new and fresh content on the website regularly.

Google says that there are four best practices for writing great content:

  • Write easy-to-read text
  • Stay organized around the topic
  • Create fresh unique content
  • Create content for users, not search engines

The days of filling up sites with search keywords are over. For Google to recognize your site as a leader, the site needs to have well-written unique content, preferably in your business niche. For many businesses, the solution is to hire a writer.

The benefits of hiring a writer to manage and create content for the blog line up with Google best practices for writing great content:

  • Writers are trained to write easy-to-read text, unlike technical people and some managers.
  • A blog writer knows how to focus in a topic and find interesting details.
  • Writers do not copy content from another source. Plagiarism is an ethical no-no for writers.
  • Writers know how to write for people, not machines.

Hiring a writer helps your site generate good relevant content that people will want to share with others. Sharing your content develops an organic “buzz” around your website that search engines like Google and Bing will recognize in their algorithms.

As people share the content on your site, your businesses’ search engine ranking will start to climb toward the top.
